Project description

Current musical search engines mostly rely on audio files. Extracting significant information for such files in order to produce structured information is a difficult task. Another solution is to exploit symbolic music representation, usually derived from musical scores. This representation contains a detailed description of all the information required to produce a precise rendering.

Musical editing softwares are these days able to output a structured description of the score. Moreover these softwares are now widely available to non-professional editors, e.g., musicians or musicologist, and do not require an advanced skill. This gives rise to new perspectives, both in terms of computer-driven searches and analysis, and in terms of dissemination and sharing of musical contents.

Our project can be stated as follows: we aim at designing and evaluating an open cooperative systems for musician communities, enabling new search and analysis tools for musical content sharing and dissemination. This is a 3-years long industrial research project. The partnership consists of 3 research groups ((IRPMF, patrimoine musical en France, CNRS, LAMSADE, Université Paris-Dauphine, LE2I, Université de Bourgogne) and a small company (Armadillo). One of the major final goals of the project is to achieve a large visibility by demonstrating our results with a cooperative Web site.
